Our latest newsletter from the Friends of Strathcona Park I available below to read and download.
We have an AGM coming up on Thursday, October 14th at 7 p.m. via Zoom. We’re hoping that by holding our meeting on Zoom more people can attend. Please look at the newsletter for details on how to obtain the Zoom link.
We’re also hoping some of you can join us as either a director or as a member of a subcommittee. We hope to create subcommittees focusing on specific areas of interest in Strathcona Park. Our directors’ meeting will be held on Zoom making it possible for people who don’t live locally to get involved.
FOSP was created in 1988 and over the years has been involved in many issues concerning the park. There was the blockade in 1988 which prevented the expansion of mining in the park, building the Bedwell Trail connecting Bedwell Lake with the west coast and encouraging the government to add lands previously deleted from the park back into it, stopping siphoning water from two wilderness lakes to provide more power for the mine, preventing running a power line down Buttle Lake to connect the mine’s power generation to the B.C. Hydro grid, creating Strathcona Wilderness Institute and working against allowing a high-end resort to run horses into the Park. We’ve attended many meetings and hearings over the years and had some impact on park policy. We remain vigilant towards any future threats to Strathcona Park and would like some more help carrying on.
We hope to see some of you at our AGM.
